Apache Cassandra Training
This course covers a wide range of topics based on my experience running Cassandra in production for over a decade. I have worked on all aspects of Apache Cassandra on the biggest deployments in the world, including Apple and Netflix, as well as my experience helping teams while at The Last Pickle, and as an independent consultant.
This is an 6-week course, meeting once a week for 2.5 hours.
The schedule for the course is as follows:

Week 1 | Join the ring - Tools and Process To Solve Any Problem. Here we learn a problem solving methology and the tools to reach for when you’re trying to understand the root cause of a problem. |
Week 2 | Data Modeling For Massive Scale. Learn how to spot problematic data models, and learn the techniques used to reach petabyte scale. |
Week 3 | Data Disasters. Some problems require deep introspection. Here you’ll learn how to inspect various aspects of the data on disk and understand how to solve a variety of confusing issues. |
Week 4 | Fight The Dumpster Fire, Part 1. We’ll start to focus on the issues that cause people to get paged at night. Learn the most efficient ways to tune a cluster and get hands on experience. |
Week 5 | Fight The Dumpster Fire, Part 2. We face another challenging round of identifying the root cause and mitigating performance issues. |
Week 6 | Final Exam. We’ll split into two teams for a competition to see what we’ve learned! |
